Types of Rubber Sheets used for Vibration Isolation

Rubber sheets are one of the most common vibrations and shock isolators used across many industries.

They are not just easy to install but also offer a cost-effective solution to unwanted vibrations and noise.

With many options of rubber sheets and mats available in the market, it can be tricky to choose the right one for your business operation. Apart from the durometer that dictates how resistant a rubber sheet is when subjected to indentation, you must also consider what type of rubber sheet will best withstand the operating conditions.

Here are the major types of Rubber Sheets that you can choose from:

Neoprene Rubber Sheets: This type of synthetic rubber with the chemical composition of 2-chloro-1 3-butadiene is known for its resistance to sunlight, oxygen, ozone, oil, ammonia, and other fluids. Neoprene Rubber sheets act as perfect vibration isolators in pumps and refrigeration units.

EPDM Rubber Sheets: Also known as Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer, this type of rubber sheet can easily withstand alkalies, acids, and brake fluids. Thus, EPDM sheets are commonly used for vibration isolation in automotive motor engines.

Viton Sheets: These synthetic rubber sheets, also known as fluoroelastomers, are known for being resistant to corrosive temperatures ranging from -20°F to 400°F. Apart from the ability to withstand oil, lubricants, and mineral acids, Viton sheets are also resistant to aliphatic hydrocarbons that can dissolve other types of rubber.

Silicone Rubber Sheets: Known for being chemically non-reactive and able to withstand temperatures as high as 200°C, these rubber sheets act as perfect vibration solutions in the food processing industry.

Buna-Nitrile Rubber Sheets: This type of rubber sheet has high tensile strength and is known for its resistance to abrasion and compression. Buna-Nitrile sheets are also oil-resistant, making them the perfect vibration isolators in applications using petroleum fluids.
